Applications for
Craft and Hobby Magnets

Not sure what type of magnet is best suited for your craft or hobby project?

Review the information below to compare the strength of the magnetic materials on this page, then follow the link below each description for more information. Suggested project materials are also listed.

Relative Magnetic Strength Chart

Standard Flexible Magnetic Sheeting

Standard Flexible (Magnetic Sheeting) - Use with lightweight projects that use paper or photographs. These magnets have a strong, indoor craft adhesive on one side that is protected from exposure by a white, peel-off liner. The adhesive side will hold decorations like colored sand, fabric, lace, colored paper and much more. Cuts easily with scissors or a hobby knife.

Standard Flexible Magnetic Strip

Standard Flexible (Magnetic Tape) - (Magnetic sheeting cut, or die-cut, into convenient sized rolls, strips or discs.) Perfect for making lightweight projects magnetic. Most of these magnets also have a strong, indoor craft adhesive on one side that is protected from exposure by a white, peel-off liner. Cuts easily with scissors or a hobby knife.

Ceramic Magnets

Ceramic 1 - Use with light to medium weight projects that use styrofoam, felt, ceramic, wood, clay or metal materials. Ceramic magnets are also known as ferrite magnets, these powerful discs, blocks and rings are ideal for crafters and teachers and come in numerous sizes and strengths.

High Energy Flexible Magnets

High Energy Flexible - Use with light to medium weight projects that are uneven or porous. High energy flexible magnets are multi-poled and feature more pounds pull than standard flexible magnets. Soft magnetic squares with foam adhesive boast lots of magnetic strength.

Ceramic Magnets

Ceramic 5 and 8 - Use with medium to heavyweight projects that use clay or wood materials. Heavy duty ceramic magnets are larger, therefore more powerful, easily holding heavier weighted projects.

Neodymium Magnets

Neodymium (Extremely Powerful!) - Use with heavy weight projects that use metal, stone or pewter materials. These magnets are frequently used in jewelry, eyeglasses, purse clasps and box closures. Super neodymium magnets are made of the most powerful magnet material in the world! Great for projects that require extreme strength in a small size. Neodymium Magnets
