SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Essential

  • Be familiar with and apply regulations for importing into the US and remain current with changes to the regulations
  • Ensure full compliance with CBP and OGA/PGA agency requirements
  • Maintain Import Compliance procedures and create process/procedure improvements when identified
  • Receive, review, and process import documentation from overseas agents, customers, and brokers
  • Determine, maintain, and communicate HTSUS tariff classifications of products to internal and external customers as needed and maintain HTSUS database
  • Coordinate and facilitate with contractors, shippers, clients, and carriers
  • Troubleshoot and resolve regulation issues
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, vendors, federal agencies, shippers, and freight brokers
  • Stay current on and ensure compliance to all applicable global, federal, and state product safety legislation, regulatory laws, and industry standards to include but not limited to CPSC, CPSIA, Cal Prop 65, REACH, ROHS and conflict minerals
  • Respond to product compliance requests
  • Develop partnerships with existing or source new 3rd party labs to perform required testing
  • Track, review, analyze and report on testing results
  • Develop product compliance plans with required testing protocols for new products
  • Research, track, and identify risk exposure to product quality, safety, and compliance
  • Partner with suppliers to address and resolve issues uncovered during testing 
  • Review product packaging and marketing messaging to ensure all claims can be substantiated by appropriate testing
  • Provide technical assistance to sales and customer support for products regarding testing and compliance
  • Develop and maintain product compliance testing documentation and database across all products and ensure requirements are up to date
  • Support the product development team in all aspects of product design and safety

Marginal:

  • Maintain and update SDS documentation
  • Work with TRG for customs bonds
  • Negotiate freight forwarder contract

    • Personal computer, scanner 

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience and in-depth knowledge of product regulatory compliance requirements for CPSC, CPSIA, Cal Prop 65, REACH, ROHS, Conflict Minerals, MSDS/SDS
    • 2 to 4 years of applicable product safety compliance experience preferred
    • 2 to 4 years in import and Customs compliance roles or cargo/transaction receiving roles
    • 3 to 5 years of freight forwarding experience
    • Strong understanding of US Customs regulations and OGA/PGA required
    • Strong knowledge and application of HTS, HS classification required
    • Ability to read and understand government legislation
    • Experience working with U.S. Customs
    • Experience using ACE database
    • Experience writing/filing cross rulings requests
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (advanced in Excel)
    • Adept at research and analysis
    • Experience working with third-party product testing facilities preferred

    EDUCATION:
     Bachelors’ Degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience and training directly related to the role responsibilities
