Product Safety Specialist

REPORTS TO: Supply Chain Manager
DEPARTMENT: Supply Chain
Position Summary
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, standards, regulations, and policies related to product safety across product categories. Work closely with business partners to resolve issues and prevent violations as well as support the corporate product safety program’s implementation and enforcement.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Essential
- Continuously review products to ensure each meet safety specifications including appropriate instructions and warning labels
- Respond to product compliance customer requests directly or through Sales rep
- Communicate appropriate methods of testing and form relationships and partnerships with third party vendors including coordinate outside lab testing and track, review, and analyze incoming test reports
- Develop and deliver communications to trading partners regarding product safety issues
- Develop product compliance plans with required testing protocols for new products
- Research, track, and identify risk exposure to product quality, safety, and compliance.
- Keep updated on all applicable state and federal product safety legislation, regulations and industry standards and report all updates internally and externally
- Ensure compliance with current and upcoming global product safety requirements
- Work with suppliers and partner with them to address issues uncovered during compliance testing
- Review product packaging and marketing messaging to ensure all claims can be substantiated by appropriate testing
- Provide technical assistance to sales and customer support for products regarding testing and compliance
- Manage and maintain product compliance testing documentation across all products and ensure requirements are up to date
- Update information in database and reports, file documentation, and communicate current/updated standards and procedures
- Support the product development team in all aspects of product design and safety
- Maintain and update SDS documentation
Marginal
- Develop, maintain, and communicate Corporate Social Responsibility compliance
- Research trademarks and patents for risk assessment for product development
- Apply for trademarks with USPTO as needed and maintain current trademark status
- Other duties as assigned
EQUIPMENT: Computer, Scanner
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with product regulatory compliance requirements for CPSC, CPSIA, Cal Prop 65, REACH, ROHS, Conflict Minerals, MSDS/SDS
- 2 to 4 years of applicable product safety compliance experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (advanced in Excel) Adept at research

EDUCATION:
- Bachelors’ Degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience and training directly related to the role responsibilities
